Whereas the risk of transmitting Covid-19 in outdoor settings is extremely unlikely (the possibility of transmission to occur outside “if we had to put a number on it, I would say much less than 1 percent” Dr. Aaron Richterman, Fellow Division of Infectious Disease, Penn Medicine, University of Pennsylvania); and, Whereas according to CTV news: Dr. Peter Juni, Scientific Director of Ontario’s COVID-19 Science Advisory Table, said outdoor activities like golf, tennis and beach volleyball are low risk; “Science is telling us that safe outdoor recreation is important.”; and, Whereas over 40% of the population of Ontario has received one dose of COVID-19 vaccines and the numbers are increasing every day; and, Whereas all Ontarians over the age of 12 will soon be eligible for the vaccine; and, Whereas children and adults' mental health issues have been negatively affected by the repeated COVID-19 lockdowns; Now therefore be it resolved that the Council of the Municipality of West Perth calls on the Ontario government to open all outdoor recreational facilities including but not limited to golf courses, skate parks and tennis courts and also that the government allow for outdoor youth minor sports such as baseball, softball, soccer and lacrosse to resume.
